Vision Redbridge invites you to take part in a vibrant and family-friendly celebration of life and death at this year’s Festival of the Dead. The festivities will take place on Thursday 30 October Wanstead Library and Redbridge Central Library on Friday 31 October.
Organised by Vision Libraries and Culture team this unique cultural festival draws inspiration from global traditions, especially the colourful and well-known Day of the Dead, where families honour and remember their deceased loved ones with music, food, joyful altars, and beautifully decorated sugar skulls.
Redbridge Libraries are celebrating in their own way with Creative workshops (mask making, lantern making and dance workshops), face painting, storytelling sessions, digital exhibitions, parades and of course a fun Day of the Dead themed costume contest where there will be prizes for the best dressed!
This celebration forms part of Redbridge Libraries’ nationally recognised Death Positive Library project. The APSE award-winning initiative, launched in 2017, aims to encourage open and meaningful conversations around death, grief, and bereavement.
Through the Festival of the Dead, Redbridge Libraries aim to foster an understanding of how different cultures approach life and death, offering both a joyful celebration and an educational experience for all ages.
This festival has been curated by Redbridge Libraries & Culture Development team for Vision RCL. Our festival has been visually inspired by Day of the Dead festivals from around the world and aims to be educational and to show appreciation of different cultures.
