Celebrate South Asian Heritage Month with Vision RCL: A Tribute to Culture, History, and Diversity


Vision Redbridge Culture & Leisure (Vision RCL) is thrilled to announce a vibrant and enriching celebration of South Asian Heritage Month, taking place from July 18 to 17 August 2024. This month-long event honours the rich cultural heritage, history, and contributions of South Asian communities in the UK. 

Discover the beauty and depth of South Asian heritage through this year’s theme: ‘Free to be Me’. Join us as we explore and celebrate the unique stories and experiences of the South Asian community in Redbridge, in the 21st century by embracing individuality and diversity. 

Event Highlights: 

  • Cultural Performances: Celebrating South Asia with Redbridge Outdoor Arts, on Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 July with two special performances at Ken Aston Square and Ilford Town Centre. These local high streets will come alive TEABREAK a portal into an experimental world of tea drinking with a live dance performance, in which stories of love, loss and ritual unfold around you, followed by Choogh Choogh a non-verbal dance performance inspired by the joy of travelling through India on a train.  
  • Natya – The Next Generation 2024: Sakthi Fine Arts Youth Dance Group will proudly showcase the rich cultural traditions of our local communities from Sri Lanka, South India, Gujarat, Punjab, Bengal, and Kerala on Saturday 20 July, at Roding Theatre, Woodbridge High School. 
  • Workshops and talks at Redbridge Libraries: For families and children, dance and storytelling plus arts and crafts workshops – colouring activities, flag-making, design wall hangings and create your own mini loom. For adults only join our special book chat to explore the rich heritage and history of South Asia through literature. If you love reading and discussing books, this is the perfect event for you! 
  • Languages Café:  This unique café experience offers a wonderful opportunity to connect with your community, learn new languages, and appreciate the rich cultural tapestry of Redbridge. 
  • Virtual Library: Vision RCL also invites you to discover the heritage, history and culture of South Asia using our Virtual Library, giving library members access to thousands of eBooks, eAudiobooks and eMagazines.
