Connection Movement

Community Action Days are staff-led volunteer sessions that take place on scheduled Saturdays. Delivered annually between March and October at selected parks across the borough.

Community Action Days provide opportunities for residents and volunteers to take part in practical activities that support the upkeep and improvement of local parks and open spaces. Sessions are led and supervised by the Parks Team and are open to all abilities.

Programme overview

Typical tasks may include

  • Litter picking
  • Planting, weeding and bulb planting
  • Habitat creation (e.g. wildflower areas, dead hedging)
  • General park improvements

 

What to expect

  • All tools, equipment and PPE will be provided
  • A short safety briefing will be delivered at the start of each session
  • Activities are guided and supervised by trained staff
  • Tasks are suitable for a range of abilities and experience levels

 

What to bring

  • Suitable outdoor clothing
  • Sturdy footwear
  • Drinking water and weather-appropriate items (e.g. sun protection or waterproofs)

Lone Volunteers

Individuals are welcome to attend independently; however, all participation must take place within the organised session and under staff supervision.

 

  • Volunteers must remain within designated activity areas
  • Tasks must be agreed with the staff before starting
  • Volunteers should not work in isolated areas or undertake unsupervised activity
  • All volunteers must follow instructions and safety guidance at all times

Key Information

  • Sessions are free to attend
  • No prior experience is required
  • Under 16s must be accompanied by an adult
  • A sign-in and sign-out process will be in place for all participants

 

Attendance

  • Participants may attend on the day or book where applicable via the website
  • Group bookings can be accommodated on request

Community Action Days are designed to support local green spaces, encourage community involvement, and provide a safe and structured environment for volunteering.
