Vision RCL are committed to providing a safe and healthy environment for our customers as we assess the constantly evolving situation in the UK at the moment.
We are taking the Government’s advice very seriously and have implemented changes across our service to ensure the health and safety of our customers and staff during these unprecedented times.
Currently the following services are open; Redbridge Parks and Allotments. Redbridge Central Library and Redbridge Cycling Centre. The leisure centres re-opened on 27 July. Details of all other services are as follows:
Culture and Sports
Kenneth More Theatre and Redbridge Drama Centre have suspended all public performances until further notice. These will be rescheduled to future dates. Summer holiday workshops will be going ahead at the drama centre. Find out how to book holiday workshops.
Redbridge Music Service all face to face teaching and groups are suspended until further notice. The music school are running lessons and will have been in contact regarding how to access lessons with your normal teacher and receive activities and feedback. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org if you think we don’t have a recent email address for you.
Redbridge Museum & Heritage Centre is closed until further notice.
Valentines Mansion has suspended all open days, events and private functions until further notice. The gardens remain open. Private hire bookings are being taken from the beginning of August onwards. Please note this date is subject to change as we continue to follow government guidelines and will continue to update you of any changes.
Mildmay Nursery will remain open for key workers children in line with government guidance on schools.
Wanstead and Loxford Youth Centres are closed until further notice.
Redbridge Outdoor Arts have suspended their programme and all public performances until further notice.
All of Vision RCL’s arts and sports events and activities programmes are cancelled until further notice this includes Walking for Health and Tea Dances.
There are no public Events taking place in parks at this time.
Redbridge Cycling Centre re-opened on Monday 6 July. Opening times are 10am-6pm, Monday-Sunday. For your safety, some changes have been put in place. Before visiting the centre, please read our guidance information.
Ashton Playing Fields has re-opened with limited opening hours. All visitors must visit reception prior to use. Cashless payments only.
Only 6 people (maximum) allowed on the track at one time. Find out more about the reduced opening hours.
Our Sport and Leisure Facilities re-opened on Monday 27 July but using the facilities will be different. Guidance for use and how to book can be found here. The facilities and activities re-opening are:
Fullwell Cross Leisure Centre – Swimming pool, gym and studio classes
Loxford Leisure Centre – Swimming pool
Mayfield Leisure Centre – Swimming pool and gym. Studio classes will be moved to Loxford Leisure Centre sports hall
South Woodford Gym – Gym. Studio classes will be moved to Sir James Hawkey Hall
Wanstead Leisure Centre – Gym and studio classes
Owls Play Centre, Fairlop Outdoor Activity Centre and Cricklefields remain closed until further notice.
Fullwell Cross Library re-opens on Monday 10 August. Opening hours are Monday- Friday 10am-5pm and Saturday 10am-4pm. For customers and staff safety, we have put some changes in place. Please read our guidance notes before visiting as we will be operating a reduced service.
Goodmayes Library & Wanstead Library re-opened on Thursday 6 August. Opening hours are Monday- Friday 10am-5pm and Saturday 10am-4pm.
South Woodford Library re-opened on Monday 3 August. Opening hours are Monday-Friday 6am-10pm and Saturday-Sunday 8am to 6pm.
Redbridge Central Library re-opened on Monday 6 July. Opening hours are Monday-Sunday 10am-5pm.
All other Redbridge libraries are currently closed, as we work to make them safe and ready. We don’t have a timescale for when they will reopen but will keep you updated.
A fines amnesty is in place which means that there will be no charges for overdue materials and books will be automatically renewed until the end of August.
The libraries events and regular activities programme has been suspended until further notice. We apologise for any inconvenience.

Parks & Open Spaces
Currently our parks and open spaces including Hainault Forest and Fairlop Waters are open, but some of our facilities are closed (see below). All of our public toilets are now open except for Fairlop Waters and Ray Park.
Our outdoor gyms and play areas across Redbridge parks and the boulder park at Fairlop Waters re-opened on Saturday 4 July. Please read the guidance on using these facilities before visiting.
When visiting our parks please follow social distancing guidelines set in place by the Government. Please follow the parks safety rules set out below:
- Remain 2 metres away from others at all times
- Spend as long as you wish in our parks
- Walk, run, cycle or workout in our parks
- Keep dogs on leads at all times
- Avoid touching surfaces such as gates and railings
- Wash your hands when you get home
- Meet up with friends and family in groups of no more than 6 people, please remain 2 meters away from other park users
- Have a picnic or sunbathe
- Enter tennis/basketball courts, multi use games area and skate parks
- Use our cafes takeaway service
- Bring barbecues, they are NOT permitted in any of our parks
- Leave litter in the parks, if the bins are full, please take your litter home with you
Foxburrows Farm at Hainault Forest and Fairlop Waters 18-hole golf course at Fairlop Waters remains closed for the time being.
Angling lakes at both Hainault Forest and Fairlop Waters remain closed for all fishing.
We are looking at contingency plans should matters escalate. If we reach a situation where the services we provide cannot be delivered due to staff shortages or change in policy, then some of our green spaces may have to be closed at short notice.
All Nature Conservation volunteering sessions across the borough have been paused until further notice and walks cancelled.
All of our allotment sites remain fully open at this time, but please ensure you are following social distancing guidelines when visiting your allotment site.
