Vision RCL are committed to providing a safe and healthy environment for our customers as we assess the constantly evolving situation in the UK at the moment.
We are taking the Government’s advice very seriously and have implemented changes across our service to ensure the health and safety of our customers and staff during these unprecedented times. Following the Government’s roadmap out of lockdown, we have begun a phased reopening of Vision facilities and services as listed below.

- Parks and Open Spaces
- Kenneth More Theatre
- Redbridge Drama Centre
- Redbridge Music Service
- Redbridge Central & South Woodford Libraries
Please note that further reopening dates are subject to Government guidance, and we will continue to update this page as and when we receive more information. Please find further information below on each of our service’s and how they will be affected.
Culture and Sports
Kenneth More Theatre reopened on Monday 12 April for workshop and classes. Live performances will commence from Monday 17 May, with a reduced capacity to allow for social distancing.
Redbridge Drama Centre reopened on Monday 12 April for classes, workshops and tuition. Theatre performances are currently postponed until we can put social distancing measures in place in the confines of a smaller theatre.
Sir James Hawkey Hall is currently being used as a vaccination site and any events/activities have been suspended until further notice.
Redbridge Music Service – All lessons will continue to be delivered by teachers in person at schools (where permitted by schools). Rehearsals and lessons will resume in person at the John Savage Centre from Monday 19 April. We will continue to monitor the situation and will advise if this needs to be change if infection rates increase. Please email the Music Service if you think we don’t have a recent email address for you.
Redbridge Museum & Heritage Centre – The museum is currently closed for redevelopment and will reopen in 2022. Redbridge Heritage Centre will re-open on Monday 10 May.
Valentines Mansion has re-opened for weddings, we are still taking booking enquires for hire, please call 020 8708 8100. Public open days will resume from Monday 17 May. The gardens remain open.
Mildmay Nursery remains open for key workers children and will continue to operate and broaden access to all children.
Wanstead Youth Centre is currently closed for activities it is being used as a Covid testing site. The re-opening date for Loxford Youth Centre will be released shortly. It is scheduled to reopen for wider use and adult classes from Monday 17 May.
Redbridge Outdoor Arts have suspended their programme and all public performances until further notice, but are working to bring back the programme as soon as possible.
Vision Venues are still taking booking enquiries. Please note that our venues team cannot provide information regarding vaccinations, and all information will be provided directly from the NHS.
Most of Vision RCL’s arts and sports events and activities programmes are cancelled until further notice, this includes Tea Dances and Walking For Health.
There are no public Events taking place in parks at this time.
All leisure centres reopened on Monday 12 April, use of gym equipment, swimming pools, swimming lessons and junior clubs will commence. If you are interested in becoming a member find out more about our special offer available until June.
Indoor sports such as group exercise classes, adult clubs, courses and racquet sports will commence from Monday 17 May.
Redbridge Cycling Centre is open for bike repairs and servicing. Tracks also reopened from Monday 29 March.
Ashton Playing Fields and Cricklefields Athletic Grounds reopened on Monday 29 March.
Fairlop Outdoor Activity Centre will reopen on Monday 21 June for water sports for schools and groups.
Fullwell Cross Spa will reopen from Monday 21 June.
Fairlop Golf Course/Driving Range and Fairlop High Ropes will remain closed until further notice.
From Monday 12 April, Redbridge Central Library opening hours are Monday-Saturday 10am-5pm and South Woodford Library & Gym will reopen Monday-Friday 6am-10pm and Saturday-Sunday 8am-6pm. Reduced book browsing and limited study spaces will be available at both libraries.
In the coming months, there will be a phased re-opening of all other Redbridge libraries. We will keep you informed as to when they reopen.
For customers and staff safety, we have put some changes in place. Please read our guidance notes before visiting as we will be operating a reduced service.
A fines amnesty is in place which means that there will be no charges for overdue materials and books will be automatically renewed until further notice.
The libraries events and regular activities programme has been suspended until further notice. We apologise for any inconvenience.

Parks & Open Spaces
Currently our parks and open spaces including Hainault Forest and Fairlop Waters are open, but some of our facilities are closed (see below). All of our public toilets are now open except for Ray Park. Cafes are running a takeaway service only.
From Monday 29 March, sports courts (including MUGA and basketball) outdoor gyms reopened and outdoor sports (football/cricket) resumed. Bowls/Cricket can resume with their planned seasons on Saturday 17 April.
Our play areas across Redbridge parks are open but please read the guidance on using these facilities before visiting.
When visiting our parks please follow social distancing guidelines set in place by the Government. Please follow the parks safety rules set out below:
- Remain 2 metres away from others at all times
- Spend as long as you wish in our parks
- Walk, run, cycle or workout in our parks
- Keep dogs on leads at all times
- Avoid touching surfaces such as gates and railings
- Wash your hands when you get home
- Meet with 6 people (the rule of 6) or 2 households only
- Use our sports courts (including MUGA and basketball) and outdoor gyms
- Use our cafes takeaway service
- Bring barbecues, they are NOT permitted in any of our parks
- Leave litter in the parks, if the bins are full, please take your litter home with you
Foxburrows Farm at Hainault Forest and Fairlop Waters 18-hole golf course at Fairlop Waters remains closed for the time being.
Angling lakes at both Hainault Forest and Fairlop Waters are now open for fishing.
We are looking at contingency plans should matters escalate. If we reach a situation where the services we provide cannot be delivered due to staff shortages or change in policy, then some of our green spaces may have to be closed at short notice.
All Nature Conservation volunteering sessions across the borough have been paused until further notice and walks cancelled.
All of our allotment sites remain fully open at this time, but please ensure you are following social distancing guidelines when visiting your allotment site.
Vision RCL have teamed up with Redbridge Council and the NHS to provide Redbridge Town Hall and Sir James Hawkey Hall as vaccinations sites, and have been experiencing a high volume of calls relating to this. Please be aware that Vision can not provide information regarding your vaccinations, and all information will be directly provided by the NHS. The NHS will contact those eligible so we ask that you please wait to be contacted first.
Rapid COVID-19 testing for residents is now available at Redbridge Central Library, Hainault Library and Wanstead Youth Centre. These rapid tests are strictly for those who don’t have any COVID-19 symptoms and can’t work from home. If this applies to you, please try to get tested twice a week, if possible.
