Celebrate LGBT+ History Month with us!
February is LGBT+ History Month, an annual month-long observance of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender history, and the history of the gay rights and related civil rights movements.
In Redbridge we’re proud to have a dedicated time to celebrate and promote equality and diversity for the benefit of the communities we live in.
During February, we’ll have a series of dedicated events and activities taking place, including performances and comedy nights, author talks, creative workshops and heritage events. You can see the full programme below, but here’s a few of our highlights.

Transparent / Fluid - Storytelling Double Bill
Join storyteller Vickie Holden for a very special double bill of unique one-act shows Fluid and Transparent.
Written for adults, the performances contains themes of gender, identity, parenting, LGBT history, change, personal development, transition, belonging, and myth.

Laugh-Able Comedy Night – LGBT History Month
Join Laugh-Able at Wanstead Library for another cracking night of comedy that’s affordable, inclusive, and brilliantly heartwarming. This February’s special LGBT+ History Month event features headliner Ted Hill, with guest MC David Ferguson.

Fire Island – In Conversation with Jack Parlett
Join author Jack Parlett for an informative discussion on his most recent book Fire Island – A Queer History. Lyrical and vivid, Fire Island is a deeply personal exploration of an iconic destination, and to the men and women whose ardour and determination spread freedom across its shores.
Deviants – In Conversation with Santanu Bhattacharya
Join author Santanu Bhattacharya for an in-depth exploration of his debut novel One Small Voice and his most recent book Deviants, which examines the histories we inherit and the legacies we leave behind, and offers a moving exploration of India’s changing social acceptance of LGBTQI+ identity.

Join author and illustrator Krina Patel-Sage for a celebration of love in all its forms!
She’ll be reading from her picture book Love Is All We Need and leading a colourful 3D paper heart craft activity.
