These fun classes for families are a wonderful way for your child to begin their musical journey. Classes include songs, rhymes, movement activities (such as rocking, bouncing and dancing) and a range of age-appropriate props and percussion instruments.

Classes are designed to contribute to all areas of your child’s development as well as building a foundation for a lifelong love of music.

Each term is carefully planned to ensure variety, progression and adequate repetition. In addition to this, the toddler classes have different themes each term such as the weather, teddy bears, food, jungle animals. 

Families are encouraged to continue the fun activities with their children at home in order to provide the repetition needed at this stage of their child’s development. To facilitate this, we provide the lyrics for the songs and rhymes as well as audio tracks to sing and dance along to at home. 

Age:  18 months to 4 years

Price: £19.70 Monthly

Mini Musician classes are capped at 16 families per class in order that your child can focus and receive the attention they deserve.

About Music for Early Years

Music for Early Years at Redbridge Music Service is designed for young children from birth to age 7. Our classes are designed to contribute to your child’s overall development as well as to give them a strong foundation for future music learning. Combining songs, rhymes, structured movement, and dance with focused listening and age appropriate percussion instruments; fun is guaranteed.  

This session is for 12 – 16-year-olds that are not in school full-time, this could apply to home educated, flexi schooled, health needs etc. Growing Wild Forest School with Tinder Sticks CIC builds outdoor confidence, resilience, and resourcefulness.

Join us to explore bushcraft, nature-based art, campfire cooking, outdoor skills, and hands-on learning while connecting with others in the community. Runs weekly during term time with seasonal themed sessions throughout.

Please note: these sessions are not safe for under 12s due to the use of tools and more advanced skills and topics, under 12s will not be allowed to take part and your ticket will be cancelled without a refund.

Welcome to Forest Explorers, a bushcraft programme for 6-11 year olds, run by Tinder Sticks! Develop your outdoor confidence and skills by having fun at Hainault Forest.

How can we stay warm in the woods without a fire…build a shelter! Have a go at making different designed shelters using branches and debris from the forest and learn how to put up a tarp shelter. This session will take place in the farm.

Join us on the farm for three whittling sessions for 8 – 18 year olds.

Session 1: make a tent peg – an introduction to whittling if you have never used a bushcraft knife before.

Session 2: make a jam spreader, whittle a wooden knife to use at home. This session can be attended by all.

Session 3: make a spatula, whittle a spatula – great for cooking your food over a campfire! This is an advanced session – you must have attended one of our previous whittling sessions at Hainault Forest / Ray Park to attend this one.

About Music for Early Years

Music for Early Years at Redbridge Music Service is designed for young children from birth to age 7. In this class pupils learn the upper notes of the recorder (over the break) and begin learning the treble recorder, building on music reading skills. At this point, pupils often chose to take RMS Stage Exams and become more independent musicians.

Entry Standard:  Pupils who can play at least an octave on the descant recorder

Age: Yr.3+

Progression Routes: Recorder Club Advanced members can progress to our auditioned ensemble – Recorder Consort. Members of auditioned ensembles have the opportunity to apply for individual lessons at Redbridge Music School.

Redbridge Music Service Clubs provide a wide range of ensemble activities for young instrumentalists and singers in Redbridge. 

The Clubs are aimed at players from beginner to grade 3 standard with a varied schedule of classes throughout the week outside of school hours. 

Club membership allows students to experience high quality musical coaching and positive social interactions with like minded peers, culminating in high standard performances. 

One monthly fee allows access to join any of our clubs. If you are unsure if your child is of the appropriate standard, please consult with their instrumental/vocal teacher or contact the Music Service for guidance.

This class follows on from the beginner class. It is suitable for children who have started to learn the recorder either in Recorder Club Beginners, or at school and are confident playing and reading 5 notes. In this class, pupils expand the range of notes they can play and continue to develop their music reading skills. 

Entry Standard:  Pupils who can play and read at least 5 notes

Age: Yr.3+

Progression Routes: Recorder Club Advanced

This class introduces pupils to the recorder and covers the first 5 notes and how to read music. There are performance opportunities at the ends of term and at the Recorder Festival. Pupils completing this class can move on to more advanced recorder classes as they make progress. Learning the recorder is an excellent basis for future instrumental learning and a fun way to learn to read music too. 

Entry Standard:  Beginners – no previous experience necessary

Age: Yr.2+

Progression Routes: Recorder Club Intermediate

Guitar Club is open to guitar pupils of all styles and types, whether you read staff notation or TAB. Whether you play acoustic, classical, electric, bass or even ukulele, you will learn to perform effectively as a part of a group in a friendly and supportive environment. The repertoire is diverse and includes all major styles from classical through to jazz and rock. 

Entry Standard: Grade 1+

Age: Yr.3+

Progression Routes: Guitar Club members can also progress to our auditioned ensemble – Guitar Ensemble. Members of auditioned ensembles have the opportunity to apply for individual lessons at Redbridge Music School.

You’ll explore the basics of Machine Learning, find out how AI recognises images and makes predictions, discover how it works in robotics, and even design your own robot using craft materials.

With interactive tools like Teachable Machine and ChatGPT, you’ll spark your creativity, sharpen your critical thinking skills, and discover more about the technology shaping our world—all while having tons of fun!

Delivered by second year Computer Science UEL students. A ChatGPT login ID and password will be needed for the session. We kindly ask parents to create this for their child beforehand.

Suitable for children 9-13 years old. No previous experience necessary. This 5-week course will run one day a week, on Thursdays from 23 January to 27 February, term-time only. You will be expected to attend each session. Maria will give you a call to discuss this course in advance and confirm your booking.
