Hainault Library re-opens

Following an extensive refurbishment Hainault Library is reopening this week (Monday 8 August).

The library, funded by Redbridge Council and run by Council Leisure partner Vision, closed for renovations in the spring and since then has undergone a complete makeover.

The revamped library boasts a brand-new children’s library, new books, digital devices, a study area, free WIFI, a reading garden, confidential advice booths and meeting tables for group activities.

The library also now has dedicated zones for different ages including an ‘out of this world’ area for children under 5 and an area for older children to study.

Like other refurbished libraries in Redbridge, the space provides flexibility through moveable shelving and furniture. This means it will be possible to host larger events and activities such as author events and family theatre shows which are a popular part of Vision’s libraries programme.

Community groups, like the regular local knitting group, will have a space in the library to meet and regular council advice surgeries will run from the library, offering support on issues including housing and employment.

Redbridge libraries are among the best in East London and provide fantastic services for local people across the borough, including access to the Libraries Consortium catalogue of over 7 million books, over 40,000 eBooks, over 800 e-Magazines, and nearly 5000 e-Audiobooks.

Deputy Leader of Redbridge Council and Cabinet Member for Finance, Leisure and Culture, Cllr Kam Rai said:

“Hainault library is in the heart of this community, providing opportunities to learn new skills, explore new interests and relax and enjoy a good book.

We’re committed to investing in local services our neighbours really care about and bringing more council services into our communities via the hubs libraries provide. We’ve given Hainault library a new lease of life, with more books, services and special areas for children and young people to read, study and learn”.

Martin Solder, Chair of Vision Trustees said:

“As a resident of Hainault for many years this refurbishment of the Library will be well received by local residents. I am really pleased that Vision has invested in Hainault to improve our Library offer to the whole community and young people in particular. As a charity Vision make no profits but reinvests across our wide portfolio of services and facilities in Redbridge.”
