Redbridge Libraries provides a FREE home delivery service for Redbridge residents where you can borrow a variety of books and audiobooks. If you or someone you know has ill health, limited mobility, a visual impairment or any other difficulty leaving the home and would like to sign up, please get in touch with the Home Library Service so we can discuss needs and check eligibility.
How does it work?
Books are delivered by a small team of volunteers. Unfortunately, for the time being this means that we have to restrict the number of customers we are able to deliver to.
If you are eligible for the service then you will be contacted by a member of our team. You will be asked to give us an idea of what you like to read and our experienced staff will choose books for you according to your preferences. They can also check which books or audio books you have borrowed previously.
We will match you to a friendly member of our volunteer team who will make arrangements to visit you at a time and day to suit you both. Sometimes, we don’t have enough volunteers serving your area. If this is the case, then we will place you on the waiting list until we are able to offer a delivery in your area.
If you don’t fulfil the criteria to be a home library service customer we will look at other options for your borrowing need. If you have a friend or family member who is able to visit the library on your behalf then we are only too happy to get books ready for them to collect for you.
What can I borrow?
We have hundreds of items of stock which means that we are bound to have what you like to read. We have books in both ordinary and large-print sizes, audiobooks and DVDs. We also have a selection of books in a range of the most spoken languages in Redbridge, including Hindi, Gujarati, Punjabi, Urdu, Arabic, Tamil, Chinese, French, Spanish, Polish, Lithuanian and Bengali.
How many items can I borrow?
You can borrow up to 20 items every three weeks. Your volunteer will contact you to arrange a mutually suitable date to collect and deliver.
I’m partially sighted, do you have anything suitable?
We have a wide range of books in large print or you might prefer to listen to books on audio CD.
