Swimming Pool Update

Swimming pool and fitness suite update

Progress on the replacement of the roof structure at Fullwell Cross Leisure Centre will soon accelerate following the award of the main works contract.

In recent months, we’ve been carrying out detailed surveys and specialist assessments, and going to the market to secure a specialist contractor. Appointing the right contractor for a complex project of this nature can take time, but it’s essential to ensure the works are delivered safely and to the required standard.

With the design and tender phases now complete, the forthcoming works include the safe removal of the defective RAAC concrete roof, which regrettably led to the closure of the pool and fitness suite. The project will deliver a brand‑new roof, extending the lifespan of the building and significantly improving its environmental performance. Once the new roof is in place, the interior will also be redecorated and refreshed.

It is expected that the pool and fitness suite will re‑open to the public in Summer 2027.

What’s Open

While the pool & fitness suite remains closed, many parts of the centre are still open:

  • Reception, and studio spaces are fully operational
  • Group exercise classes continue in Studio 1 and the Sam Ryan Studio
  • Swimming sessions have been relocated to Loxford and Mayfield Leisure Centres
  • A refurbished spa, including a new sauna and upgraded changing rooms. Read more on the Vision website

We appreciate your patience and continued support as we work to bring back a safe and welcoming pool environment for everyone

Redbridge Cycling Centre

Track Maintenance Update

Following the end of the summer season, Redbridge Cycle Centre was temporarily closed to allow for essential maintenance and resurfacing of the track. This well-loved facility welcomes thousands of visitors each year and it’s vital that we keep the track in excellent condition for all users.

As part of the upgrade, a state-of-the-art membrane has been installed beneath the asphalt on the top circuit to enhance durability and extend the life of the surface.

To carry out these improvements safely and effectively, the cycling and BMX tracks were closed during the works period.

Current Progress

  • We are pleased to confirm that repair works on both the BMX, upper and lower tracks are now complete and fully open to users.
  • The works have addressed previous surface issues and improved overall track quality to ensure a safer and more enjoyable experience for cyclists.

We appreciate the patience and understanding shown by our hirers, clubs and regular users throughout this period of improvement works.

South Woodford Library and Gym

Building Update

Following a routine structural assessment, Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC) was identified in the roof of South Woodford Library and Gym. This material has been the subject of national safety guidance, and in line with that advice, we’ve taken the precautionary step to close the building while we carry out further investigations and plan essential repairs.

For everyone’s safety, the building will remain closed until the works are complete.

  • Gym and studio sessions have been temporarily relocated to Redbridge Drama Centre
  • A pop-up library is now available, offering:
    • A curated selection of popular books
    • A dedicated children’s area

Expansion

A new skatepark for Hainault

The brand‑new skate park at Forest Road Recreation Ground, Hainault, is officially open. The upgraded facility replaces the much‑loved park that served the community for more than 20 years.

Why we’re building it

For two decades, the skatepark at the junction of Forest Road and Elmbridge Road has been a hub for young people, home to countless tricks from handplants to tail grabs on its iconic vertical half-pipe.

Following a recent inspection, however, the structure was deemed unsafe and has now closed. While repairs kept it going for many years, the time has come to retire the old park and look ahead to something bigger, safer, and better.

Designed with the community

This isn’t just a replacement — it’s an opportunity to reimagine what a skatepark can be. Redbridge Council and Vision RCL are committed to co-designing the new facility with local residents and skaters, ensuring it reflects the needs, creativity, and spirit of the community.

Progress so far

  • Public consultation gathered ideas on features, layout, accessibility, and visibility
  • Our appointed design-and-build contractor has submitted the final design concept
  • Preparations are underway to mobilise on site and begin construction

Looking ahead

The new skatepark in Hainault is scheduled to open in Spring 2026.

While you wait

Alternative skate facilities are available nearby in Seven Kings and Romford. We’ll continue engaging directly with local skaters and park users to shape the new site — so when it opens, it will be even better than before.
