Online Resources

Online resources are available to all users in our libraries.

Redbridge Library card holders can access our online resources free of charge at any Redbridge library using their library card. Some resources are also available remotely. Refer to each individual resource for access details.

The Law&Rights website is a complete legal resource for anyone with a question about the rights and responsibilities associated with living, working or engaging in life in Britain’. The resource is updated daily.

RB Digital provides access to 350 popular emagazines which as a Redbridge libraries’ member, you will be able to download and read on your device for free. Choose from a wide range of genres such as;

Theory Test Pro 

Learn to drive with Redbridge Libraries!

Theory Test Pro is an online reference service offered to public libraries in the UK. The service provides highly realistic online simulation of the UK’s driving theory test. It contains the entire official test question bank, hazard perception, video clips and an online version of the Highway Code.  All this material is licensed from the Driving Standards Agency, the people who set the tests.

Go Citizen 

Go Citizen is an online study resource for people preparing for the Life in the UK test or British citizenship test. It includes an online version of the latest official study materials licensed from the Home Office, the people who write the handbook, plus hundreds of practice test questions in the same format as the official test.

Ancestry is the largest genealogical online resource which offers a wide and diverse variety of unique content to help users trace their family lineage or help historians access historical records.

This resource is available in all Redbridge Libraries.

Find My Past 

With Find My Past you can search over 1.5 billion British comprehensive family history records and start building your family tree.

The British Newspaper Archive 

The British Newspaper Archive offers national, regional and local newspapers from the 19th (and some from the 18th) century British newspapers.

The Times Digital Archives 

The Times Digital Archives is an online, full-text facsimile of more than 200 years of The Times, one of the most highly regarded resources for the 19th-20th Century history detailing every complete page of every issue from 1785 through to 2010. This historical newspaper archive allows researchers an unparalleled opportunity to search and view the best-know newspaper in the world in its original published context.

Credo Reference 

Credo is a giant online reference library that enables you to search more than 3 million full text articles in 1,138 reference books. It includes encyclopaedias, dictionaries, thesauri and books of quotations, not to mention a range of subject-specific titles covering everything from art to accountancy and literature to law.

American National Biography Online

Use American National Biography Online website to discover more than 19,000 men and women – from all eras and walks of life – whose lives have shaped American history and culture. New biographies are added on a regular basis, and revisions are made to already published entries, giving you access to the most up-to-date and accurate information available.

Oxford Reference Online 

Oxford Reference Online contains almost 1.5 million facts and definitions from Oxford’s dictionaries and reference books. Updated regularly. Content ranges from concise definitions to in-depth articles on topics from art to zoology.

A core foundation of 150+ academic subject, language, and quotations dictionaries providing carefully vetted, trusted short-entry content, spanning 25 different subject areas. Best for checking a fact or finding key trusted information or a person, concept or term. Results range from short-entry, general reference to more in-depth articles on specific subjects.

The Oxford Dictionary of National Biography 

The Oxford DNB is the national record of men & women who have shaped British history and culture, worldwide, from the Romans to the 21st Century. The dictionary offers 60,061 concise, up-to-date biographies of people who died before the year 2012, covering 2500 years of history – plus 536 “theme” articles for reference and research.

Oxford English Dictionary 

The definitive record of the English Language!

Oxford English Dictionary is a historical dictionary which details the meaning, history and pronunciation of 600,000 words, past and present, from across the English-speaking world. You will still find the present-day meanings but will also be able to trace the history of words through 3 million quotations, from classic literature and specialist periods to film scripts and cookery books.

Encyclopedia Britannica is advanced level, constantly updated reference content from reliable trusted sources for older students and adults. It works on any device: PC, laptop, tablet or smart phone. Students are able to conduct research, complete homework assignments, work on specific projects and store research in their own My Britannica Account.

Britannica Library – Student  

Britannica Student is aimed at students 12 yrs+ and is a fantastic resource for homework, assignments and projects covering topics Animals, Arts & Literature, Earth & Geography, History, Life Processes, Living Things (other), Philosophy & Religion, Plants, Science & Mathematics, Society, Sports & Recreation, Technology. Students are able to browse across all 12 subject areas for articles, images, videos or biographies and store research in their own My Britannica Account.

Britannica Junior  is aimed at young enquiring minds of 5 to 11 years old.  Fantastic resources for homework, projects and assignments. Key features include News of the Day provided by CBBC, Explore the Animal Kingdom, Word Wall, Geography Explorer Game & World Atlas together with subject articles, images, videos and biographies.
