During this introductory course, students will learn the basic skills and techniques required to produce and compose their own original music using Ableton Live.

By the end of the course students will have created their own original track and acquired the knowledge to compose many more!

The course fee is £90 for 10 x 60 minute sessions.

What will I learn?

The course is taught using Ableton Live and students will be provided with a login for the duration of the course allowing students to access and work on their tracks in between sessions and practice what they have learnt.

Over the weekly sessions students will learn how to:

  • Navigate Ableton Live – one of the most popular professional music software programmes
  • Create loops for drums and other instruments
  • Understand recording techniques to capture live audio
  • Create midi tracks using virtual instruments and synthesisers
  • Compose original ideas with an understanding of melody, harmony, structure, texture and dynamics
  • Edit and arrange tracks
  • Use audio effects to enhance sounds
  • Use production techniques to mix and master tracks to allow a professional sound

Technical Requirements

Music Production Classes

Pupils learning remotely will need:

  • PC or Mac
  • Stable internet connection
  • Video camera for online video calls
  • MIDI controller keyboard (preferable but not essential)
  • The lessons are delivered over Microsoft Teams.

The course is taught using Ableton Live which requires a software download. A license will be provided but please check before registering that your system supports the technical specifications by using the link below.

GCSE Music Theory Booster Course (online)

Redbridge Music Service is launching a new Online Music Theory and Aural Skills class designed specifically to support students studying GCSE Music.   

The course is 10 weeks long, 1 hour per week, and is designed to provide a comprehensive foundation in music theory and aural skills, aligned with what students are expected to know before taking the GCSE Music exams (any exam board).

Cost

This course is £55 for 10 x 60 minute sessions.

These sessions are aimed at students in Y10 and 11 currently studying for a GCSE Qualification.

What will I learn?

🎵 Music Theory

This course breaks down the essentials so that every student, from any style of music or starting point, can follow and understand theory with confidence.

🎵 Aural skills and Dictation

During the course students will develop their aural skills and apply them to aspects of the GCSE examination like dictation, interval recognition, cadences and more.

🎵 Notation

This course offers an accessible overview of music notation, key terminology, and all the core concepts needed to confidently navigate the GCSE Music exam.

🎵 Appraisal

The students will learn how to listen to, analyse, and interpret music from different historical periods.

🎵 Q&A

Students will also have the opportunity to ask questions about music theory, aural skills, or appraisal — helping to clear up any doubts and build confidence.
