About the park
Christchurch Green is a large open green space with a newly refurbished children’s play area that is conveniently situated in Wanstead High Street. It’s close to lots of local amenities and places to eat and drink. The medieval church still stands within the grounds of the open space and is still widely attended. This area is very popular especially in the summer where the public enjoy having a picnic on the grass. There is also a festival held on this green once a year, usually in September.
Car park prices: Up to 1 Hour – £1.80, 1- 2 Hours – £3.10, All Day – £6.40
Please note: Barbecues are not permitted at any of our parks and open spaces.
Long Grass Management
Christchurch Green contains areas of long grass that are intentionally managed for biodiversity.
The shaded areas on this plan show the parts of Christchurch Green that are intentionally managed as long grass to support biodiversity. These areas provide valuable habitat for pollinators, insects and other wildlife, whilst the remaining grassed areas continue to be maintained for recreation, sport and everyday public use.
Approximately 10% of Christchurch Green is managed as long grass as part of a borough-wide programme covering around 135 hectares of parks and open spaces across Redbridge. This balanced approach allows biodiversity to flourish whilst ensuring the park remains welcoming, accessible and functional for residents and visitors.
Green = Regularly maintained grass
Orange = Biodiversity long grass
