Green Flag Assessment Criteria

The media and public are becoming increasingly aware that a site flying a Green Flag is a high quality green space. On behalf of The London Borough of Redbridge, Vision RCL is committed to improving the quality of the facilities available in our area and achieving the Green Flag Award is all part of our strategy to make Redbridge a better place to live. 

The criteria by which each site is judged are grouped under eight main headings that outline the standards that a Green Flag must achieve and set targets for improvement as follows:  

  • A Welcoming Place
  • Healthy, Safe and Secure
  • Well Maintained and Clean
  • Environmental Management
  • Biodiversity, Landscape and Heritage
  • Community Involvement
  • Marketing and Comunication
  • Management

Previous People's Choice Awards

Two Redbridge parks – Hainault Forest and Valentines Park have been recognised among the UK’s Top ten parks in the prestigious People’s Choice Awards 2024. This annual award by Keep Britain Tidy celebrates the nation’s best-loved parks, with over 21,000 people casting their votes. 

Hainault Forest has ranked in the top 10 for two consecutive years, while Valentines Park has achieved this award an impressive nine times since 2012, reflecting the continued community love and support for Redbridge’s cherished green spaces. 

All nine of Redbridge’s Green Flag-awarded parks were eligible for this award, highlighting Keep Britain Tidy’s standards which recognise parks that are well

Park users voted for Hainault Forest as one of the most impressive green spaces in the country as part of the 2023 People’s Choice Awards. 

Over 21,000 people took part, voting for their favourite Green Flag park or green space as part of the annual People’s Choice Awards, and for the first time, Hainault Forest took one of the ten top spots. 

Hainault Forest is one of nine parks in Redbridge with a prestigious Green Flag Award, which recognises well-maintained, accessible, biodiverse parks loved by their local communities. The awards are presided over by a panel of experts and set the standard for managing recreational outdoor spaces across the United Kingdom and worldwide. 

Valentines Park has once again been voted one of the Top Ten Green Flag Award-winning parks in the UK! The People’s Choice Award top ten parks were announced in a special virtual awards ceremony hosted by Keep Britain Tidy. Valentines Park was among the winners during 2022, having achieved the place for the forth year running and the eighth time overall since 2012, thanks to your votes.
