We are delighted to announce that Redbridge Libraries has been accepted into the first national Libraries Development Framework, a competitive accreditation process administered by Arts Council England. Redbridge Libraries will be amongst the first cohort of successful services, and the result is a testament to the excellent work taking place in our libraries.
The Libraries Development Framework supports public library services across the country, helping them meet community needs and fostering greater national consistency. In July, Redbridge Libraries applied to join the framework to demonstrate its commitment to ongoing development, innovation, and best practice.
The assessment panel praised Redbridge Libraries for providing an exceptional application, supported by a broad range of impactful examples, demonstrating a clear commitment to innovation and continuous improvement. Our submission also showed a strong understanding of the Framework’s four key areas:
- People: understanding the community and local needs
- Place: responding to local priorities and creating local impact
- Purpose: vision, leadership, and effective use of resources
- Policy and Practice: upholding library values and workforce development
We will ensure the service continues to build and develop on these strengths over the next five years as part of our membership with the Libraries Development Framework, with progress reviewed annually.
Redbridge Libraries have been successfully operated by Vision Redbridge on behalf of Redbridge Council since the local trust was established in 2011.

Joining the Libraries Development Framework is further recognition of our commitment to protecting and investing in these vital services, ensuring they continue to evolve and meet the needs of our residents for years to come.”
