Redbridge Outdoor Arts in Ken Aston Square

Vision RCL’s Redbridge Outdoor Arts (ROA) programme presents a summer of arts and culture in Ken Aston Square on Barkingside High Street. A programme for all ages to enjoy, where everyone in the community is welcome and all events are FREE of any charge.

Once a month from June to September the square will become animated with theatre, performance, circus, dance, Hip Hop, puppetry, singing, storytelling and magic and a breath-taking Cyr wheel makes an appearance. There will be themes exploring food, friendship, trust, discovery, strength, sustainability, identity, culture and healthy eating.

Redbridge Outdoor Arts is about discovering connections within the community through a shared experience as an audience, participant or artist.

With additional audience development funding from Without Walls, children and their families can take part in arts and crafts activities with Barkingside Art Club (BAC), older children and young people can join the Creative Ambassadors zone for an independent approach to creating art and there will be an opportunity for everyone aged 5-25 years old to complete the Discover in a day Arts Award accreditation.

In partnership with BAC’s SEN Girls Art & Social Club and the Outdoor Arts Artist’s we’re developing the access and inclusion offer across the programme. Through offering pre-show relaxed tours, distributing easy-reads, relaxed intro videos and photo’s, to enable familiarisation for children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), as well as neurodiverse adults.

Back in 2019 Vison RCL’s Culture Development Team successfully bid to join the Without Walls Touring Network Partnership alongside fellow Leisure Trusts such as Magna Vitae’s SO Festival, your trust’s (formerly Link4Life) Rochdale Feel Good Festival as well as borough council’s and Creative People & Places Projects across England.

Since our first event in 2019 we’ve been lucky enough to programme some of the UK’s most exciting outdoor arts work such as Highly Sprung’s Urban Astronaut, Luke Jerram’s Museum of the Moon and Southpaw Dance’s Icarus.

The Ken Aston Square summer programme is just one project within Redbridge Outdoor Arts, we’re also a consortium partner in Circulate Outdoor Arts for London with Waterman’s Arts Centre in Hounslow, Millfield Theatre in Enfield, Hayes Outdoor and Outdoor Arts UK. The Circulate programme is delivered in Ilford Town Centre alongside St George’s Day celebrations and Tech Ilford as part of London Tech Week.
