Compete for Redbridge

The Sport & Health Team coordinates the entries for Redbridge into a variety of youth events including London Youth Games, London School Games and Virgin London Mini Marathon. Virgin London Mini Marathon

When does it take place?

Redbridge can select 6 athletes from each of the 6 age groups and compete against entrants from the eight regions of England (that’s East, East Midlands, North East, North West, South East, Southwest, West Midlands and Yorkshire & Humberside), Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales, and will include teams from all 33 London Boroughs.

Previous winners of the Mini London Marathon and Mini Wheelchair Marathon include four-time Olympic Games gold medallist Sir Mo Farah, David Weir, winner of four Paralympic gold medals and a record eight London Marathons, and Shelly Woods, silver medallist in the 2012 London Paralympic Games. Many Olympians from other sports have also taken part including Tokyo triathlon gold medallists Alex Yee and Georgia Taylor-Brown.

How do I take part for Redbridge?

To be considered for qualification for the Redbridge Team you need to complete a 5km Park run, these take place on Saturdays at 9am at Valentines Park, Wanstead Flats and other locations around the country. If you’ve never completed a park run, you can register online.

What age groups can compete?

  1. Under 13 Boys and Girls (School Years 7 & 8 and some year 6) Cross Country and Road Running competitions for Under 13s shall be confined to competitors who are aged 11 on the day of competition, or 12 on 31st August prior to the commencement of the Competition Year as defined above.
  2. Under 15 Boys & Girls (School Years 9 & 10) Cross Country and Road Running competitions for Under 15s shall be confined to competitors who are aged 13 or 14 on 31st August prior to the commencement of the Competition Year as defined above.
  3. Under 17 Men & Women (School Years 11 &12) Cross Country and Road Running competitions for Under 17s shall be confined to competitors who are aged 15 or 16 on 31st August prior to the commencement of the Competition Year as defined above.

London Youth Games

London Youth Games competitions will take place on weekends in May and June with the finals in early July. The games are free and open to all young people, aged between 7 and 18 years (each sport has their own age criteria), living in or going to school in Redbridge.
