Kenneth More Theatre has been a beloved cultural landmark in Ilford since it first opened its doors in 1975, named in honour of the iconic British film and stage actor Kenneth More. Following the discovery of RAAC (a lightweight concrete used in mid-20th century construction), the theatre’s auditorium was temporarily closed while essential works were carried out to ensure the building’s safety and longevity. We’re delighted to announce that the Kenneth More Theatre will reopen in December 2026 following a major refurbishment, bringing live performance back to the heart of Ilford.
While the auditorium has been closed, our bars, welcoming foyers and versatile studio spaces have continued to provide opportunities for events, rehearsals, creative activities and community groups. We look forward to welcoming audiences and performers back to the theatre and continuing its much-loved role at the heart of Redbridge’s cultural community.
