About the venue

Sir James Hawkey Hall was the civic hall for the former borough of Wanstead and Woodford, that was opened in March 1955 by Sir Winston Churchill. Its grand mid-century decor and commemorative historical items lend an impressive backdrop for your function.

The venue includes the main hall, smaller side hall, large foyer, dressing rooms, green room, ladies lounge/prayer room, kitchens, servery and large stage; making it ideal for a wide range of functions and events.

We cater to all, from Weddings and Receptions to live theatre and performances, with a large stage, lighting rig and sound equipment available. Discounted rates are available for charity and voluntary groups.

A noise limiter is operated at this venue.

A deposit of 25% of the hire fee must be paid to secure your booking. We also take a refundable £1,000 damage deposit, which you will get back after the event if no damage is caused to the hall, equipment or facilities.
