Litter has become a big problem for Redbridge parks during the good weather. When the bins are full, visitors to the parks have just been leaving their litter behind. So Redbridge Council and Vision put their heads together and thought it would be a good idea to get the younger generation on board. A competition was launched asking school children to design a poster that could be used on our social media channels and around the borough asking people to clean up their parks.
The response was amazing and when the competition closed on Thursday, we had 70 entries from all over the borough.
We are pleased to announce that the overall winner is 8 year old Iris Wan from Redbridge Primary School. Her colourful design containing a message to all that ‘if the bin is full, take your litter home with you’ is exactly the message we want to convey. So well done to Iris whose poster will feature on poster boards around the borough, in the Council’s Redbridge Life magazine and will be used to reinforce the ‘Clean up your park’ message on social media.
“My favourite park is Clayhall Park because I like to play in the playground with my friends.”Iris Wan
With the standard of entries so high, we selected two worthy runners-up and we are therefore also delighted to congratulate 10 year old Aidan Wan from Redbridge Primary School and 11 year old Eakaspal Kohli from Eastcourt Independent School for their amazing entries. We loved Eakaspal’s additional catchy messaging and the detail and colour in Aidan’s drawing. Our runners-up posters will also feature in our social media campaign.
“My favourite park is Valentines Park because of the wildlife and is a great place for cycling.”Aidan Wan
“My Favourite park is Fairlop Waters because it is an incredibly beautiful huge park with scenic lakes, climbing walls, bird wildlife and lots of space for bike rides!!”Eakaspal Kohli
Thank you to all the children that took part which showed us just how much creativity we have out there. Keep drawing everyone, and help keep your local park a clean and tidy place to visit.
