Festival of the Dead – Who Is Death?

Join artist Tess Tallula for a gentle and creative drop-in craft activity inspired by her children’s book This is Death. Children can make their own paper puppets – unique interpretations of Death as a kind and comforting character who helps guide us to whatever comes next.

Tess Tallula is an artist and author of two children’s books. Her work is multilayered and mixed media, blending textiles and craft techniques with traditional two and three dimensional art forms. In both her art practice and her storybooks, she navigates themes of memory, emotion, and interconnectedness, inviting viewers on their own introspective journeys. Saccharine memento mori, smiling skulls, flowers and ghostly spirits act as a way to process grief and celebrate the circularity of life and our place in the universe. These seemingly otherworldly or fantastical scenes are intensely familiar recreations of something innate and unspoken.
