The Great Yiddish Parade

Event Image

Celebrate Victorian Yiddish culture in London, along with friends whose communities have also gathered here making Redbridge one of the most diverse boroughs.

The parade invokes the late Victorian Era tradition of protest parades of Yiddish workers marching in London’s East End. The Great Yiddish Parade on Tour is produced by JW3 in London, Europe’s largest Jewish arts and community centre.

PRE-PARADE WORKSHOPS – Redbridge Central Library – 12.30pm-2pm

JW3 are hosting workshops for children over 5yrs and adults prior to the start of the parade, making banners and learning about the act of gathering for protest through the ages, as well as the specific historical context of this parade.

THE PARADE – Sets off from and returns back to Redbridge Central Library – 2pm-3pm

Join the collective of performers as they recreate the historic annual march, gathering with their neighbours, both Jewish and from other immigrant communities. The result is a celebration of music along with a protest against inequality and the rising cost of living featuring Yiddish song, Klezmer music and chants. It celebrates the contribution of Jewish immigrants from Eastern Europe to the UK and offers an inclusive approach to celebrate all migrant cultures and the music and culture they bring with them.

Children must be accompanied by a parent/guardian.
