The chronicle of the Oscars spans almost a century, marking its 95th annual ceremony this year. Despite this long legacy, the lack of representation of Black women in the list of Oscar nominees and winners is astonishing. The statistics clearly show a dearth of Black female nominees and winners over the years.

Led by special guest Gary Gibbs, this workshop is a great opportunity to learn about the history of the Black female Oscar nominees and winners from the 1930s to the present day. Gary will explore the social and cultural context around the lack of Black female Oscar nominees and winners and investigate their absence.

This is sure to be an entertaining and informative session as Gary has an encyclopedic knowledge of film that he shares in a relaxed, informal way.

Bring your lunch or a snack for this lunchtime film chat. Hot and cold drinks are provided.

Suitable for ages 18+

First Tuesday of the month
