Step into the serene and immersive corner of the Festival of the Dead, where The Craft Café offers a haven for quieter activities and meaningful conversations.

At The Craft Café, we believe that libraries, as safe and trusted community spaces, can foster important discussions about loss, grief, end-of-life planning, and legacy through the power of books and reading.

Location: First Floor

Time: 2pm to 4pm

What to Expect:

  • Crafts and Interactive Activities: Engage in creative projects and activities that invite introspection and thoughtful reflection.

This friendly, safe, and confidential space welcomes all viewpoints. Whether you wish to think, chat, or simply listen, The Craft Café is here to support you.

Create your very own Sugar Skull mask with Hello the Mushroom – then wear it with pride in our fabulous lantern fiesta parade with the Lantern Company!

Please note, this craft activity will involve the use of scissors, staplers and glue, and will require some parental supervision. It is not suitable for children under 8 years.

Redbridge Festival of the Dead is back and for the first time ever will be held at 2 locations on 2 separate dates, so now you can have double the fun! 

Don’t miss this vibrant family friendly celebration inspired by festivals and traditions from around the world. 

Activities include: 

  •  Arts & Crafts workshops 
  • Lantern Making 
  • Mask Making 
  • Storytelling  
  • Films 
  • Face Painting 
  • Arts Exhibitions 
  • Stilt walkers 
  • Live Music and entertainment by Mariachi el Mexicano at Wanstead Library and Bollywood Brass Band at Redbridge Central Library 

Look out for the Lantern Company’s fabulous light parades full of infectious music, giant puppets, glamorous light up characters and cheeky skeletons. 

Everyone (big and small) is invited to come dressed up in brightly coloured clothes or their favourite Day of the Dead inspired costumes to join in with the celebrations. Don’t forget to bring your glow sticks and torches! 

Prizes will be given to the best dressed. 

A limited number of workshops are available to book in advance with remaining spaces available to purchase on a first come, first serve basis. During busy periods we may limit the capacities inside the libraries to help keep everyone safe. More information will be available soon.

There will be a Halloween-themed entertainer, games, balloon modelling, and a face painter to transform your little ones into their favorite characters. Enjoy our spooky soft play area for extra Halloween fun!

Come in costume and make this Halloween one your children will always remember. Don’t miss out on family-friendly fun at Owl’s Play Centre!
