Join us for an inspiring and hands-on Henna Mehndi Workshop, where tradition meets creativity. Often referred to as Mehandi, this ancient art form involves adorning the hands, feet, or body with intricate designs made from a natural paste derived from the dried leaves of the henna plant.

Celebrated across South Asia—and sharing deep cultural roots with traditions in North Africa, East Africa, and the Middle East—henna is far more than just body art. It is a symbol of beauty, ritual, and celebration.

This workshop begins with a warm introduction to the rich history, cultural significance, and natural composition of henna. You’ll discover how different communities have embraced this art form in festivals, ceremonies, and everyday life.

What to Expect:

  • Discover the cultural history of henna
  • Learn about safe and natural henna practices
  • Take part in short art therapy activities
  • Browse through a curated selection of design books for inspiration
  • Practise drawing patterns and create your own henna hand designs
  • Engage in an open Q&A with a professional henna artist
  • Optional: enjoy a quick and simple henna application using traditional henna and glitter cones

All henna paste ingredients will be clearly displayed. If you choose to receive a design, please review our Allergy Advice poster on-site beforehand.

This workshop is open to ages 13 and above — perfect for anyone interested in art, culture, and self-expression.

Discover the story behind every swirl and dot—immerse yourself in the beauty of henna.

Join our education ranger for a Minibeast session focusing on Woodlands!

This activity will involve going for a walk to see what minibeasts we can find in the forest. We will learn how to gently catch and collect minibeasts, identify what they are before releasing them.

We will provide all the equipment that is needed for you to find and collect minibeasts, and help to identify them and add them to our record sheets.

This event is open to all ages and families are welcome, the session will last approximately 90 minutes.

Join our education ranger for a Minibeast session focusing on Meadows!

We will explore one of our wildflower meadows to discover what minibeasts we can find. We will gently catch these creatures to ID them and release them back.

Find out why meadows and wildflowers are so important, and how we can support these amazing habitats in our local area.

This event is open to all ages and families are welcome, the session will last approximately 90 minutes.

Join a group walk guided by our education ranger to discover Hainault Forest. This walk is all about becoming comfortable and confident outdoors. This event is free, and will last approximately 2hours

This walk will follow the Buxton Trail which is approximately 2 miles long, this Trail is described as;
Undulating path with short moderate slopes of 20m.
Wide earthy but firm path with one narrow, often muddy, stretch.
Uneven in places with two narrow gates

We will walk at a gentle pace, learning about the surroundings and connecting to nature. No experience is needed and this walk is open to everyone over 14 years old. You are welcome to bring well-behaved dogs along on this walk, noting that there are small sections of the walk where they may need to be on a lead.

Join our education ranger for a Minibeast session focusing on Spiders!

Spiders are wonderful creatures but often get a bad reputation, in this session we will try to find different spiders and dispel some of the myths surrounding them.

We hope you will leave this session with a new found love for spiders, ready to share with your friends and families.

This event is open to all ages and families are welcome. This event does not involve handling large exotic species such as tarantulas, we will be searching for species that live in Hainault Forest.
