Redbridge Outdoor Arts – Ken Aston
Ken Aston was a local headteacher and a football referee, he can be seen in the centre of the flag. Best known for inventing the red and yellow cards that are used in football games today and that inspired the Redbridge Outdoor Arts branding.
The area outside Fullwell Cross Library, where Redbridge Arts hosts its programme of events and shows, is named Ken Aston Square in his honour. This flag celebrates the man, the square and some of the shows seen in both Barkingside and across Redbridge; the Vegetable Nannies, Black British Ballet, Simple Cypher, Museum of the Moon and TEABREAK.

Transcript: Underneath the green roof, inside of the arch is painted a bright orange, with red and purple colours on the outside. A small bunch of nine tomatoes on a vine, a pineapple and a coconut are transformed into charming characters with googly eyes. The main image is of a white man with a blue football shirt, his left arm held up and his fingers for a V sign. He holds a whistle in his right hand. A tuk tuk mini lorry is painted green and drives in from the right, on its roof a black ballet dancer is in a dance pose. On either side, red and yellow rectangular shapes represent the football referee cards.
