Unleash your creativity at our “Super Women, Super Self” textile workshop as we celebrate and honour normal, everyday “superwomen

We invite each participant to bring along items of inspiration – sentimental, personal, practical – that relate to the woman/women they wish to celebrate, which can even be themself!

Items of inspiration can be objects, images or words that express the superwoman attribute or power that you’d like to celebrate. Please note, this should not be anything valuable as it will be part of a display in the library.

All participants will receive a piece of material of the same dimension to create their textile piece. About the size of a small bathroom tile 20cm x 20cm. The finished embroidery hoop is 16cm x 16cm.

Ideas and sketches for your textile can be created in advance and brought to the workshop.

You will be provided with basic materials to create your textile piece, but you can bring any special elements such as beads, sequins, fabric to incorporate into your finished piece.

Suitable for ages 16+

No previous experience required.

The workshop will be facilitated by Katie Schreiber and Hasina Zaman.

The pieces created in the workshop – along with the inspiration item – will be displayed at Wanstead Library from Monday, 11 until Saturday, 16 March.

About Katie
Katie Schreiber is a visual artist based in London. Within her work she explores the notion of identity both as something that comes from within and one that is projected onto us, drawing on personal experiences from her cultural upbringing and her relationship with queerness. She expresses these themes through a combination of body adornment, installation, and soft sculptures.
