Calaveras (skulls) feature prominently in the Day of the Dead. People often wear skull make-up or masks and make skulls from sugar to place on altars. Come and decorate a cheeky skull mask to wear in the parade.

Tickets for the Afterlife is an innovative digital experience, designed by Dr Stacey Pitsillides in partnership with Dr Claire Nally, Redbridge Libraries, Kirklees Libraries and Newcastle Libraries.
Explore a range of choices for what to do with your body, memories and legacies that span the past, present and future of death and dying.
Please be aware that Tickets for the Afterlife introduces a wide range of death practises that some people might find difficult. We do not recommend this for children unless accompanying adults are confident they can sensitively support this exploration.

Traditionally on the Day of the Dead, graves are decorated and ofrenda (altars) are made to remember loved ones who have died. These displays include objects, food and drink that were much enjoyed by the deceased.
Draw or write about the things you’d want on your ofrenda or tell us about someone who has died and a memory you have of them.
