Bigwave Events

Two sisters, Snow White and Rose Red, live in a pretty cottage in a garden full of white and red roses.


Their kind hearts and happy dispositions help a Bear and a Wolf to get along so they can break a magic spell.


Loosely based on the original tale by Brothers Grimm, the Let’s All Dance Ballet Company breathe fresh life into this quirky story. With their signature lovely dancing, clear narrative and larger-than life characters, this award-winning company brings another fabulous production to young and family audiences.

A digital exhibition, curated by the artist Hello the Mushroom for our Festival of the Dead in 2024. It features work from artists from all over the world, on the themes of Death Positivity and the Day of the Dead.

The resulting submissions range from reinterpretations of the Mexican Day of the Dead imagery to other more personal approaches to the theme, all of them full of life, depth and thought-provoking ideas.

Hello the Mushroom is a London-based artist whose work can be found on the streets and in galleries. Her work is mostly based on collage and other reworked found imagery. It takes a humorous approach to female empowerment, sexuality, body image and beauty standards as well as reflecting her recovery from a life-threatening form of cancer. Her work often features skulls representing the transience of life while challenging us to re-evaluate our live’s purpose and priorities.

Join The Bollywood Brass Band for some exhilarating, colourful and joyful live music!

The Bollywood Brass Band is the UK’s pioneering Indian-style brass band, playing the great tunes and compulsively danceable rhythms of Bollywood. Twice nominated for Songlines World Music Awards, the band has performed all over the world.

The band will play at different points of the afternoon, and accompany the Ilford Procession – so make sure you don’t miss out!

Grab your lanterns, masks and glowsticks to help bring Ilford alive in a grand spectacle of puppets led by The Lantern Company.

Take a moment to honour your loved ones and join the celebration of life – with Las Muertas stilt walkers and live music from some very special guests!

The Ilford Procession will gather inside the library 30 minutes before the start of the event.

Join storytelling adventurer Laura Sampson on a voyage through world folk and fairytale to a place where ancestors are remembered, where Death shows who they really are, and where creatures great and small can cross borders between the lands of the living and the dead. Expect silly tricks, talking skulls, long-lost loved ones, and lots more!   

Laura Sampson is a London-based storytelling performer and writer, whose mixed heritage and myth studies have taken her on many adventures. She tells stories of surreal situations and big emotions from all over the world.

When Oscar the skeleton meets a lonely little girl, it’s the start of an adventure for both of them. Together they make an unusual journey to two very different worlds and it all begins with them both losing a tooth…

Cat & Hutch Storytellers bring children’s stories to life through interactive shows and workshops with the aim to encourage children to read for pleasure and use their imaginations to learn through play.

Join storyteller and actor Valentine Hanson for some spooky death themed storytelling as part of our Festival of the Dead activities at Wanstead Library. 

Valentine Hanson is an actor, storyteller, and drama practitioner from and based in East London. His work includes performing at The Globe, The National Theatre, Leeds Playhouse, London’s West End and national tours. He has also performed at Discover Children’s Story Centre, various museums, libraries and community events around the UK, as well as SEN schools as a mentor for children, young adults and professional creative with additional needs.
